ADB Finances Small Farmers in Sudan

The African Development Bank, in cooperation with the World Food Organization (FAO ), has launched the financing of the emergency project to enhance wheat production in the White Nile State, targeting small farmers in irrigated projects and Nile pumps sector.

Director of the Agricultural Research Station and Head of the Technical Committee, Dr. Khaled Abdallah Osman said the emergency project aims to enhance wheat production in White Nile State, saying it is being funded by the African Development Bank and jointly implemented by the Ministry of Production, the Agricultural Research Station and the World Food Programme.

The training course targeted fifty farmers from the wheat-producing localities in the state. He explained that the areas cultivated in the state, the average productivity, and the good farmers are among the reasons that led to financing and supporting institutions to be convinced to provide support to farmers, noting that the training course included a number of topics, including the approach to innovation platforms and agricultural operations ,the wheat crop, seed production and trading, in addition to the economic and marketing of the wheat crop , varieties, weed , pest control, and the effect of land diversity and the use of fertilizers in increasing productivity.
