The Algerian Football Federation confirmed it is boycotting the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards distribution ceremony, held in the Moroccan capital, Marrakesh, on Monday evening. The decision came in solidarity with their player Riyad Mahrez, who was excluded from the awards final list.

The Algerian Football Federation announced, through its president, Walid Sadi, that his country is officially boycotting the CAF Awards ceremony in solidarity with international Riyad Mahrez, who was excluded from the final list of candidates for the Best Player Awards in the continent.

Sadi said in a statement: “I will not attend the CAF Awards ceremony today, Monday. I informed the Confederation of African Football of my absence two days ago. God willing, no Algerian will be at the ceremony in solidarity with Mahrez.”
