Urawa faces the City in the Club World Cup
Jeddah – Sudan Events
Dutch substitute Alex Schalke led the Japanese club, Urawa Red Diamonds, to the semi-finals of the 2023 Club World Cup, at the expense of Mexican Club Leon, 1-0, after scoring a goal five minutes after entering the field.
At the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, the representative of Asia thwarted the ambitions of the Mexican team, with a late goal in the 78th minute, through Schalke, who took advantage of a lapse in defensive coverage, to put the ball under goalkeeper Radolfo Cota.
The match was close, with slight dominance for some periods by the Mexican team, which failed to penetrate the Japanese defense, ending its participation early.
Lyon finished the match with ten players, after its Colombian defender, William Teselo, was sent off in the 84th minute.
Urawa will face European champion Manchester City in the semi-finals, Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
