Algeria national team coach Djamel Belmadi excluded the “Desert Warriors” from his nominations to win the African Cup, scheduled to be held in Côte d’Ivoire between January 13 and February 11, 2024.
Belmadi said during a press conference on Sunday: “For the most part, the teams nominated to win the title are always the same, such as Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal and Nigeria.”
He added: “No one can predict who will win the next tournament. Some teams can create a surprise.”
The Algerian coach continued, “We were eliminated in the first round in the last edition, so I say that we are not among the most prominent candidates.”
He concluded: “We are going with great ambition. We will work calmly and seriously, as we have done in past years, in the hope of achieving the greatest possible extent.”
The Algerian national team is competing in the continental championship in Group Four, alongside the teams of Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Angola.
