Agar: No Referring of Sudanese Questions to IGAD

Port Sudan – Sudan Events

The Vice President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Malik Agar Air, has confirmed that there is no point in referring the Sudan issue to IGAD, and noted the country’s declared position on the organization’s upcoming summit.
Agar met at his residence in Port Sudan today (Saturday) with the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Sudan, Ramadan Lamamra.
He described the meeting as friendly and said that he discussed many issues, especially since the envoy was on an exploration trip to learn about the Sudanese vision with the aim of developing a road map to present to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on how to address the crisis in Sudan.
Agar explained that the war in Sudan has regional and international dimensions that must be discussed.
He pointed out that the meeting discussed the situation in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, the upcoming IGAD summit, and Sudan’s position towards that event. The meeting stressed that there is no point in referring the Sudan issue to IGAD.
On Saturday, the Sudanese government declined participation in the IGAD summit in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, next Thursday, and considered that there is no need to hold a summit to discuss Sudan before implementing the outcomes of the previous summit.
