UN Envoy: Discussions to End Sudan War

The UN Secretary-General’s Envoy to Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra on Saturday entered into meetings with senior Sudanese officials aimed at putting an end to the war in Sudan.
Diplomatic sources explained that Lamamra arrived in Port Sudan on Saturday, on his first visit since his appointment to the position last November.
The Source added that the UN official will discuss ending the war in Sudan, and the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the country, with the President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, and a number of officials, including the Acting Foreign Minister, Ali Al-Sadiq.
The sources further indicated that the visit focuses on the United Nations’ efforts to improve the humanitarian conditions in Sudan.
Last November, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the appointment of former Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra as his personal envoy to Sudan.
