A Sudden Strike by Guinean Players in the African Nations
Abidjan – Sudan Events
The players of the Guinean national team surprised officials by announcing a general strike before facing Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, January 28, in the round of 16 in the African Cup of Nations “Ivory Coast 2023”.
According to the Guinean website “100% Foot” and the newspaper “RMC Sport”, the players rebelled and did not participate in training yesterday, Thursday, in protest against not receiving the bonuses for qualifying for the round of 16, which are estimated at ten thousand dollars for each player.
This comes at a time when the Guinean team, which succeeded in passing into the round of 16 in the top four, after earning four points in the third group, is supposed to prepare for a match in which it will meet Equatorial Guinea on January 28 in the round of 16.
The journalist explained that a representative of the Guinean government met with the players and promised them that the rewards would arrive tomorrow, Saturday. However, the mere promise did not convince the players, and they insisted on continuing the strike.
But RMC Sport confirmed that the problem is on its way to being resolved, and preparations for the Equatorial Guinea match are scheduled to continue normally.
