Egyptian Ministerial Decision to Review Restoration Project of Pyramid Menkaure

Egyption Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Issa issued a ministerial decision to form a higher scientific committee headed by archaeologist and former Minister of Antiquities Dr. Zahi Hawass, and with the membership many senior scientists specialized in antiquities, particularly the pyramids, and engineering, from Egyptians and foreigners from the United States of America, the Czech Republic, and Germany, to review the joint project between the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the Japanese Waseda University delegation, it was submitted to conduct architectural restoration work for the Pyramid of Menkaure in the pyramid’s antiquities area.
The committee will also, after completing the project review, prepare a detailed scientific report on the results of its work, the conclusions of the scientific review they conducted, and take a decision on whether to move forward with the project or not, provided that the report also includes all procedures and steps that must be followed for the required coordination with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in this regard.
The committee will also submit this report to be presented to the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for approval before starting any work related to the project on the Pyramid of Menkaure and its surrounding area on the ground.
The Supreme Council of Antiquities will provide the committee with all data, information and documents related to the project, so that it can complete its work in an optimal manner.
Once the committee’s work is completed and the report is presented to the Minister, an international press conference will be organized to announce the results reached by the committee and the decision taken regarding starting the project or not.
