“SIHA Network”: Rape Victims Commit Suicide in Sudan

The Horn of Africa Women’s Network “SIHA” has announced that it had monitored 14 cases of pregnancy resulting from gang rape, which it considered a small number in view of the difficulties that hinder communication and obtaining information. It also revealed cases of suicide of victims who had been subjected to rape.
The network said in a report that rape and mass rape are one of the features of Sudan’s war, which has completed a full year, with the scope of violations expanding from Khartoum, West and South Darfur to include the villages of Gezira region and the regions of North and East Sennar, South Kordofan and North Darfur.
The report indicated that 7 cases of suicide were observed among victims from the states of Khartoum, Gezira and Sennar, reflecting the serious health and psychological consequences resulting from the crime.
