Dramatists Syndicate: The solution is in the drama institution

Sudan Events – Magda Hassan

Al-Rashid Ahmed Issa, head of the Dramatists Syndicate, said that he kept receiving comments with a firm belief in the role of drama at this stage and demands for conscientious writers to write about the tragedies to which the Sudanese people were exposed during this war.
Al-Rashid confirmed that the solution is actually in the drama institution, “When I say institution, I mean that drama was in the time of democratic Athenian Greek the third institution that constitutes the most important part in the triad of democratic practice. First, the legislative institution that enacts laws, second is the executive institution which constitutes the judiciary and implements the law, and the third institution is drama, which monitors the work of the two institutions and is considered to be the conscience and morality that is keen to implement justice by pointing out the shortcomings as well as presenting them through the plays presented, which were watched by all the people because they suspected themselves in those characters, confronted them, discovered their faults and mistakes, and from them comes purification and correction,” He said. “Drama is a moral institution based on provoking reactions that are settled in the spectator’s subconscious, and among them his conscience holds him accountable for the heinous actions he has committed that are not accepted by conscience or by society. But the question remains, where is the society that is aware of the role of drama in order to produce creative people with this awareness.” He added.
