Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of “Fikra for Studies and Development”, Al-Shafi’ Kheider, called on Saturday not to drown Cairo conference with thorny issues, suggesting focusing on agreeing to stop the war through negotiations, addressing the humanitarian situation, and launching a political process.
Al-Shafi’ Kheider said, while addressing the opening session of the Political and Civil Powers Conference, representing the participants, that “it is not useful to load the conference with an excessive load of thorny issues, as it is preferable at this phase to come out with an emphasis on the general principles of stopping the war through negotiations, the priority of addressing the humanitarian crisis, preserving the unity of Sudan, and launching a political process.”
Al-Shafi’ called for importance of the conference powers to agree on a mechanism for follow-up and political, mental, and organizational preparation for the meetings that complete the conference.
Kheider said that the army and the Rapid Support Forces RSF “may reach an agreement to cease fire and fighting, but they alone cannot stop the war and they alone cannot determine the fate and future of Sudan.”
He affirmed that the primary responsibility for stopping the war lies with the Sudanese civilian powers entrusted with designing and leading the political process, without which the war will not end.
