Government Committee Announces Two Months’ Salary Payment for Workers in Khartoum

Sudan Events – Updates
The Governor of Khartoum, Ahmed Othman Hamza, met with representatives of workers in the state who had traveled to the administrative capital, Port Sudan, to meet with state officials and highlight the workers’ plight due to not receiving their salaries for a full year.
The governor listened to a briefing on the outcomes of the visit and the efforts made to resolve the salary issues. The head of the delegation, Nasr Al-Din Abdullah Abkar Ibrahim, assured the workers that their dues would be addressed gradually, starting next month with the payment of two months’ salaries. He praised the governor’s support for the workers’ committee and his efforts to facilitate its mission.
In this context, the governor stated that the state would not be able to meet salary payments due to the conditions imposed by the war and the loss of all its financial resources. He noted that this situation requires the federal government to consider these circumstances, particularly the payment of salaries to workers who have lost all their possessions and are now without jobs.
He revealed that the state is working on alternative measures to ease the suffering of the workers, such as opening outlets for discounted goods and activating cooperatives and other incentives. He also called for follow-up on the outcomes of the visit and the contributions made to the state by some governmental institutions and organizations, ensuring that workers are informed of the committee’s findings.
