Announcement of New Decision Regarding Currency Exchange

Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The official spokesperson of the Bankers’ Union, Ahmed Abdel-Rahman Al-Houri, stated that the Central Bank of Sudan decided not to extend the currency exchange period after December 23rd. He added, “After this date, the old currency notes of 1000 and 500 pounds will no longer be accepted in the states and cities designated for exchange.”
Al-Houri urged the public to take advantage of the time and not wait until the last days to exchange the currency due to potential risks and expected congestion.
He confirmed that the currency exchange process, on its third day, is proceeding smoothly and in an organized manner, with good security conditions in all the exchange states. He added, “Since the Sovereign Council has issued a decision for both government and private institutions not to accept any cash payments and to only accept payments through electronic and banking means, citizens should seize the current opportunity to quickly open bank accounts and use the app for currency exchange and other purposes, primarily for paying fees and dues for various government and public sector transactions.”
Al-Houri called on citizens to take advantage of the banks being open for currency exchange until 6 PM and on holidays, to speed up the opening of accounts and deposits to avoid the expected congestion in the last days.
