Inter Milan in Riyadh… All Eyes on the “Italian Super Cup”

Riyadh will host the 2025 Italian Super Cup, where four of Italy’s top football teams will face off: Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, and Atalanta.
The tournament will be held from January 2 to 6, 2025, in Riyadh, with its stadiums equipped with the latest technologies. This year’s edition marks a change in both format and location, enhancing the global appeal of the competition. The tournament is part of the “Riyadh Season,” which promises exciting matches and captivating stories for Italian football fans.
Inter Milan, the defending champions, arrived in Riyadh early Tuesday, signaling their determination to defend their title.
The “Nerazzurri” have proven to be a dominant force in the Italian Super Cup, having won the last three editions. A fourth consecutive victory would equal Juventus’ record of nine titles in the competition, underlining their recent dominance in domestic football. However, their preparations have not been without challenges.
According to Sempreminter reports, key players Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard will miss the tournament due to injuries. Despite these setbacks, coach Simone Inzaghi remains optimistic and expects veteran defender Matteo Darmian to take on a leadership role. Inter’s opening match will be against Atalanta on Thursday, a team that has been performing exceptionally well this season.
Under the leadership of Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta has exceeded expectations, setting a club record by winning 11 consecutive Serie A matches. With their dynamic attacking style, Atalanta has become one of the most exciting teams in Italy. While they have never won the Italian Super Cup, their current form makes them a serious contender.
Football Italia noted that the tournament provides a golden opportunity for Gasperini and his players to secure their first major title in the competition, adding a new chapter to their rise in Italian football.
Meanwhile, Juventus, the most successful team in Super Cup history with nine titles, is also in the mix, aiming to reclaim the trophy they last won in 2020.
Massimiliano Allegri’s team enters the competition after a 2-2 draw with Fiorentina in Serie A, a result that reflects their inconsistency this season.
Nevertheless, Juventus’ pedigree in big matches cannot be overlooked. With a wealth of talent, including seasoned stars and rising players, they remain a formidable force.
Reuters confirmed that Juventus will look to leverage their experience and historical success in the tournament when they face AC Milan on January 3, 2025.
The decision to host the tournament in Riyadh for the fifth time is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader initiative to attract international sports events and enhance its global standing. The Italian Super Cup is one of many prominent competitions within Saudi Arabia’s entertainment and sports events, making it an annual celebration.
As OneFootball explained, Saudi Arabia’s investment in such events reflects its ambition to become a key player on the global sports stage.
