New Increase in Customs Dollar Rate
Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
Former Treasurer of the National Importers’ Chamber under the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Hashim Al-Fadil, revealed the implementation of a new increase in the customs dollar rate at border crossings and airports starting at the beginning of 2025.
Al-Fadil told Al-Ahdath that the customs dollar rate rose from 110 to 1,350 Sudanese pounds in October 2024, to 1,600 pounds in November, and then to 1,700 pounds in December. Today, it has been calculated at approximately 2,000 pounds.
He warned of the repercussions of these consecutive increases on commodity prices, describing them as additional burdens on the Sudanese citizen. He also considered the continuous increase in the customs dollar rate a source of disruption for importers and traders in their financial planning and urged the government to adopt stable financial policies.
