Urgent Measures to Address the Water Crisis in Khartoum
Sudan Events – Follow-ups
Several foreign and national organizations have rushed to contribute to the solutions being implemented by the emergency committee formed by the Governor of Khartoum, Ahmed Osman Hamza, to address the drinking water crisis, led by the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Local Governance, Ihab Hashim Ismail.
The committee held a meeting on Friday with the organizations that announced their contribution, attended by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid, Khaled Abdel Rahim, the General Coordinator of Service Steering Committees, and the coordinators of administrative units.
Ihab explained that the meeting discussed the mechanism for distributing the fuel donated by the organizations to the well generators, in coordination with the Director of Wells at the Khartoum State Water Authority.
During the meeting, it was agreed to distribute the organizations’ support according to the priorities determined by the Wells Management at the Water Authority, starting with the densely populated areas and gradually moving to less dense areas. Some organizations had already distributed their support to areas where hospitals are located.
The remaining organizations will begin their distribution operations on Sunday, according to the prioritization mechanism agreed upon during the meeting.
