Sudan Events – Follow-ups
The River Nile State government announced the establishment of an industrial city in the Hajar al-Asal area south of Shendi, less than a week after declaring it free of pockets of rebellion.
Abubakar Muhammad Al-Amin, Chairman of the Exhibitions Committee at the Higher Committee for the First Nile Investment Industrial Forum in Atbara, stated that River Nile State has prepared four industrial cities to localize investment in balanced geographic areas within the state, including Al-Hudi, Umm Al-Toyur, Shendi, and Hajar al-Asal.
Governor of River Nile State, Muhammad Al-Badawi Abd al-Majid, along with the State Security Committee and the Shendi Locality Security Committee, visited the Hajar al-Asal area last Sunday. From the last border point with Khartoum State, the governor declared that his state was free from pockets of rebellion.
The governor also directed the review of all service facilities, the opening of markets, and the normalization of civilian life in the area.
Hajar al-Asal is considered a promising area for investment due to its preferential, operational, and encouraging advantages. It is very close to the Jili Refinery, which produces electricity, thus solving one of the biggest challenges for industrial cities—energy. Additionally, it is close to the area of Al-Hurra villages, where operational materials are readily available. The proximity to the high population density in both River Nile and Khartoum states is another benefit. Moreover, Hajar al-Asal is connected to the Tihama Road, linking it to many cities in Sudan and key ports on the Red Sea, as well as having access to the railway network and its various stations.
