Algerian international striker Amine Gouiri has moved from French club Rennes to Marseille, which was searching for an attacking reinforcement following the departure of its forward Elye Wahi to Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.
At 24 years old, Gouiri, who came through the youth ranks at Lyon, has played over 200 matches in the French Ligue 1 with Lyon, Nice, and Rennes. He began representing the Algerian national team in 2023, earning 12 caps and scoring five goals.
In its statement on Friday, Marseille did not disclose the contract length but described Gouiri as a forward with “high technical ability and excellent finishing quality.”
The club also did not reveal the financial details of the transfer, though some media outlets estimated the deal to be around €19 million, plus bonuses.
Marseille’s Italian coach, Roberto De Zerbi, commented on Friday before the official announcement, saying, “He is a strong player who will help us. He is still young, and this will be an important signing.”
The former Brighton manager added, “He can play as a center forward, as he did early in his career, but he is also capable of playing in various attacking positions. We will find the best solution for him.
