German Parliament Rejects Right-Wing-Supported Migration Law Proposal

Sudan Events – Agencies
On Friday, German lawmakers narrowly voted against a proposed law to tighten migration rules, which was introduced by the opposition conservatives and supported by the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its ally, the Christian Social Union (CSU), had succeeded on Wednesday in passing a non-binding resolution calling for stricter immigration policies, which was backed by the AfD.
However, their attempt to push the law through the Bundestag on Friday failed, with 338 votes in favor, 350 against, and five abstentions, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The outcome was met with applause from members of the ruling Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Greens, the two largest parties opposing the proposal.
Debate on the bill was delayed for hours to allow last-minute negotiations between the CDU/CSU and other moderate parties in an attempt to reach a compromise. However, these talks failed, and the vote proceeded as originally planned.
