New Injury for Real Madrid’s Defender Alaba

Real Madrid, competing in Spain’s La Liga, announced on Tuesday that their defender David Alaba will be sidelined after suffering a thigh muscle injury in his left leg.

Alaba had recently returned to play for Real Madrid after over a year of recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The Spanish champions did not provide an estimated date for the return of the 32-year-old Austria captain after this latest setback.

Real Madrid will face Leganés on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey, then host Atlético Madrid in La Liga on Saturday, followed by a trip to face Manchester City in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League knockout round on February 11.

Real Madrid stated in a statement: “After medical tests conducted on our player David Alaba by Real Madrid’s medical services, his injury in the thigh muscle of his left leg was diagnosed.”

Real Madrid currently leads La Liga with 49 points from 22 matches, just one point ahead of second-placed Atlético Madrid.
