Enrique: I Look Forward to Making History with PSG

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique expressed his happiness over extending his contract for two more years with the club and said he looks forward to making history with the French Ligue 1 champions.

The Spanish coach, who joined PSG in 2023, expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by the club’s management and stated that he is eager to leave a lasting legacy in Paris.

Speaking to reporters after PSG’s 4-1 victory over Monaco on Friday, Enrique said:
“From day one, the club has provided us with everything we need, and this support only makes me more eager to continue working and improving. We want to make history here as a coaching staff. I don’t know how long I will stay, but when you feel comfortable and have the trust of those around you, why set limits for yourself? I am very happy with this support and hope to repay it with hard work—whether that translates into results, I don’t know.”

Enrique dismissed the notion that PSG’s commanding victory, which extended their unbeaten league run and put them 13 points ahead of their closest rival, was their best performance of the season. He acknowledged that the match was challenging despite the scoreline.

“I don’t think we played our best game, and I didn’t like the last 10 or 15 minutes. We couldn’t take the ball away from Monaco and faced some difficulties. The first half was very even, and it was hard to press them. We caused more trouble for them in the second half, and in the end, we deserved the win. But it was a tough match, as it always is against Monaco.”

PSG will now shift their focus to the Champions League play-off round, where they will face Brest, their Ligue 1 rival, on Tuesday.

Despite a slow start to their Champions League campaign that prevented them from qualifying directly for the Round of 16, Enrique believes the team’s struggles have made them stronger as they chase their first-ever title in the competition.

“We have been through everything. All those critical moments where our fans believed in us are now proving invaluable because they have given a young team maturity. We will never stop fighting. That is our goal this season—to fight until the very last minute of every competition in an effort to make history.”
