Urgent Demands from the Employers’ Association to Al-Burhan

Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah

The Sudanese Employers’ Association submitted an urgent memorandum to the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, outlining several demands.

The memorandum, signed by Moawia Aba Yazid, called for the establishment of a specialized committee to assess damages and compensate affected factories. This comes in response to severe destruction in the industrial sector due to looting and vandalism, including the theft of electrical cables, destruction of factory motors, looting of production lines for copper extraction, and dismantling of zinc sheets from warehouses.

Additionally, the employers called for customs and tax exemptions to facilitate the import of equipment and raw materials needed to restart factories. They also proposed the creation of a compensation fund, financed by assets confiscated from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to cover up to 50% of the losses.

The memorandum emphasized the need for easy-access loans to help affected factories resume operations quickly and for enhanced industrial security by deploying police forces to protect industrial zones and prevent further looting.

It also highlighted that supporting and compensating the industrial sector is not unprecedented, citing examples from successful countries that rebuilt their economies after wars and disasters. The document referenced Germany’s post-World War II recovery through the Marshall Plan, as well as Iraq and Rwanda, where effective compensation policies helped restore production and economic growth.

The employers urged the Commander-in-Chief to issue an immediate directive to form the committee and approve its plan to ensure the industrial sector’s recovery and protect the national economy.
