Sennar State Affirms Commitment to Opening Routes and Supporting the Pastoral Sector

The Secretary-General of the Government, Majdi Al-Barir, representing the Wali (Governor) of Sennar, affirmed the state government’s increasing interest in the livestock and agriculture sectors due to their vital role in achieving social peace. He emphasized that any conflict between the two sectors poses a threat not only to the security of the state but also to national security.

This came during his address at the First Pastoralists’ Conference organized today by the Civil Support Committee for the Pastoral Sector, under the Mobilization and Popular Resistance Committee in the state. The event saw significant attendance from officials and pastoralists. The governor’s representative reaffirmed the government’s commitment to opening pastoral routes and providing necessary veterinary care and environmental support to improve livestock breeds and increase exports.

Dr. Mawahib Al-Amin, the state’s Minister of Livestock, expressed the ministry’s determination to revive and develop the pastoral sector despite current challenges. She noted that the state contributes significantly to the country’s livestock exports.

Dr. Khalid Bushra, representative of the Head of the Mobilization and Popular Resistance Committee, stated that the resistance has two fronts: the first is armed support at the front lines alongside the armed forces, and the second is civil support, which is no less important. He highlighted their efforts to rebuild the pastoral sector through civil interventions aimed at renaissance and progress.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Abdel-Fattah Badi, head of the Civil Support Committee within the Mobilization and Resistance Committee, stated that the pastoral sector faces several challenges that are evident to the executive body. He emphasized the need to adopt the conference to address these issues scientifically with relevant authorities and reach fundamental solutions to prevent conflicts, enhance farmer-herder relations, and boost the economy.

For his part, Ahmed Dafallah, President of the Pastoralists’ Union, said that destruction is not heroism—true heroism lies in rebuilding during times of hardship. He pointed out the exceptional circumstances under which the conference is held and stressed the importance of scientific discussion to elevate the pastoral sector by drawing on experience and expertise.
