Twenty-one people were killed and 47 others injured after a drone belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted the central prison in El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, on Saturday.
Police and state government officials quickly visited the scene at El-Obeid Prison, and dozens of the injured were transferred to the hospital for treatment.
The Sudanese Doctors’ Network condemned the continued targeting of civilian facilities in El-Obeid by the RSF, which led to the deaths of 21 people and injuries to 47 others among the inmates.
The network stated that the El-Obeid prison in North Kordofan houses around 5,000 inmates serving sentences and is considered a civilian facility, which should not be targeted by drones.
The Sudanese Doctors’ Network called on international and UN organizations to exert pressure on the RSF leadership to halt the expansion of its violations against unarmed civilians and the targeting of major cities with high population density, in blatant defiance of all international resolutions aimed at stopping such abuses.
