Authorities Tighten Security Measures in Khartoum

A sovereign committee has announced strict measures to maintain security and reinforce state authority in Khartoum, while warning against dealings with foreigners lacking legal residency documents.

The committee met on Saturday under the chairmanship of Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Jaber, with the participation of the Ministers of Defense, Interior, Energy and Oil, Federal Governance, Youth and Sports, as well as the Khartoum State Governor and members of the Security Oversight Committee.

Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Hassan Daoud Kabron, head of the security committee, said the measures include a ban on carrying weapons and wearing military uniforms in neighborhoods and public areas. He also announced restrictions on the use of motorcycles and unregistered vehicles inside Khartoum, citing their frequent involvement in armed robberies.

Kabron confirmed the committee’s determination to enforce security measures to stabilize the situation and uphold state authority in the capital. He urged citizens to cooperate in locating missing vehicles and removing abandoned ones from roads and public squares. He added that the public prosecution was preparing legal orders to deal with derelict cars.

He reiterated the call for avoiding any dealings with undocumented foreigners and urged diplomatic missions to regulate the status of their nationals.

Kabron emphasized that Sudan is in a state of war, which necessitates tightening control over foreign presence in the country.

The committee further directed security forces not to obstruct the work of the squatter-settlement removal team, warning that any obstruction would constitute a violation of state directives subject to legal accountability.

Citizens were also urged not to establish new informal settlements, with authorities stressing that the ban on squatter housing is irreversible as part of efforts to combat security threats and prevent the spread of illicit activities.
