The Kenyan government has welcomed the joint statement issued by the International Quad on Sudan, which includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the United States, affirming that the move reflects a collective commitment to restoring peace and security in Sudan and the region.
In a statement, Nairobi described the Quad meeting as a positive initiative that should be embraced by all Sudanese parties amid the unprecedented crisis following the outbreak of war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in April 2023. The statement emphasized that achieving a solution requires collective efforts at national, regional, and international levels.
Kenya stressed the importance of coordinating positions among African and international organizations, including IGAD, the African Union, the United Nations, and the Arab League, to provide unified and coordinated support to Sudan. The statement noted that Kenya views the unification of multiple peace tracks under African leadership as the best approach to ensure the success of any political settlement, while guaranteeing strong backing from the international community.
Regarding the nature of the solution, Kenya reaffirmed its firm rejection of any military resolution to the Sudanese crisis, emphasizing that political and negotiated solutions must take precedence. It called for active and effective participation of both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in a comprehensive negotiation process aimed at ending the war and achieving a just political settlement.
The Kenyan government also underlined the importance of respecting Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, warning against any attempts to divide or fragment the country. Nairobi reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sudan’s unity and stability, viewing these as essential for the country’s interests and regional security.
