UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher has arrived in Sudan for a week-long visit aimed at assessing the country’s worsening humanitarian situation and supporting ongoing peace efforts.
In a post on the platform X, Fletcher said his visit reflects the United Nations’ commitment to ending atrocities, advancing efforts to end the conflict, and upholding the UN Charter.
He added that he would push for safe access for humanitarian teams and increased funding to save lives in conflict-affected areas.
Fletcher’s visit comes as Sudan faces an escalating humanitarian crisis, with growing violence across several regions—particularly in Darfur—leading to a surge in displacement and civilian casualties, amid severe challenges facing aid organizations trying to reach those in need.
