Currency Replacement Committee: 90% of Circulating Cash Converted to New Currency

The High Committee for Currency Replacement in Khartoum State announced that 90% of the circulating money supply has been converted into the new currency, confirming that the process is conducted exclusively through bank deposits.

The committee held its second meeting in implementation of a decision by the Central Bank of Sudan. It noted that banks have been equipped with counterfeit detection devices and that security, judicial, financial, technical, and media committees have been formed, alongside the establishment of operations rooms to monitor the process.

The committee urged citizens to quickly deposit old currency before the deadline expires.

This came during the second meeting chaired by Khartoum Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza, as part of implementing the Central Bank’s decision to replace currency in Khartoum, Al Jazirah, and White Nile states. The meeting was briefed on the commencement of the replacement process, which involves issuing new currency and withdrawing old notes.

It also directed the formation of specialized committees—security, judicial, financial, media, and technical—as well as operations rooms to oversee implementation and conduct statistical tracking at the Central Bank.

The committee will continue its meetings to finalize arrangements ensuring the process is completed according to the set timelines.
