The Davis Cup draw has pitted defending champions Italy against Argentina in the opening match of the quarterfinals in Málaga, Spain, in November. The United States will face Australia.
Spain will meet the Netherlands, while Canada will go up against Germany.
Each tie consists of two singles matches and a decisive doubles match.
Italy’s team, which missed its top player, world number one Jannik Sinner, in the group stage, won all three of its matches. Sinner may return for the quarterfinals in Málaga.
Argentina advanced to the quarterfinals from a tough group that included Britain and Canada.
The United States team, which did not perform well in the group stage, will rely on its top players to overcome Australia, the second most successful team in the tournament with 28 titles.
