Sudan Presents Observations to High-Level African Delegation on UN Inquiry Committee

Sudan’s Attorney General, Al-Fateh Tayfour, informed members of the African Peace and Security Council that the fact-finding committee established by the UN Human Rights Council had exceeded its mandate and failed to adhere to the established standards for investigative committees.
A high-level delegation from the African Peace and Security Council arrived in Port Sudan on Thursday. The national committee investigating war crimes and violations of national and international humanitarian law, led by the Attorney General, met with the delegation, providing a detailed briefing on the crimes and violations committed during the war by the rebel militia. The report included statistics on criminal cases filed by the Public Prosecution, with some cases already referred to the courts.
The Attorney General elaborated on the tasks and authority of the national committee, its methodology of work, and presented a video documenting the crimes and violations perpetrated by the rebel militia, which the African delegation viewed.
