Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany hailed Lamine Yamal’s rapid rise at Barcelona following Lionel Messi’s departure, calling it exceptional, ahead of their Champions League clash.
Yamal, who won the European title with Spain in July, is regarded as one of football’s top talents. His emergence has raised hopes among Barcelona fans that he can help the team replicate the success achieved during Messi’s era. Messi, now playing for Inter Miami, won four Champions League titles with Barcelona, along with numerous other honors.
At a press conference before Wednesday’s match, Kompany said, “Honestly, I don’t know, but it’s truly exceptional for Barcelona to have a player capable of filling the void left by Messi so soon. It’s unique, and all credit goes to La Masia academy.”
Yamal has had an outstanding start to the season, with five goals and six assists across all competitions after his summer European Championship triumph.
Bayern, sitting 15th after two Champions League rounds, aims to recover following their loss to Aston Villa in the previous match.
Kompany added, “Our goal is not just to stop one player but to win the game, which means playing against all of them, even though Yamal is exceptional.”
Bayern welcomes back playmaker Jamal Musiala after injury, though Kompany remains undecided on whether he will start the match.
