The United Nations reaffirmed its full commitment to building bridges for peace and creating sustainable solutions for Sudan’s future, emphasizing that it will not give up even in the face of enormous challenges and restrictions, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
In a statement on United Nations Day on Thursday, the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami, said that Sudanese people look to the UN and the world to stand with them and support their calls for peace and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
She added: “Even in the face of enormous challenges and restrictions, we will not give up.”
She confirmed that they will continue to move forward, expanding the delivery of life-saving assistance to the most urgently in-need communities, wherever they may be.
She continued: “We will continue to call on Sudan’s friends to understand that even amidst this crisis, there are opportunities to focus on resilience and support livelihoods.”
She added: “We will continue to urge the warring parties to fulfill their obligations under international humanitarian law and reiterate our call for an immediate cessation of hostilities.”
