Sudan Events – Rehab Abdullah
The Council of Ministers, chaired by Acting Prime Minister Osman Hussein, approved on Thursday the key features, objectives, and guidelines for the general state budget for the fiscal year 2025. The proposal was presented by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim Mohammed.
The Council commended the Ministry of Finance for preparing realistic features and objectives that align with the needs of the current phase. The Minister pledged to incorporate the observations made by the Council and to adopt them in the preparation of the next year’s budget.
Government spokesperson and Minister of Culture and Information, Khalid Al-Ayasser, stated in a press release that the Council, chaired by Acting Prime Minister Osman Hassan, discussed the emergency budget for 2025, alongside a report by the Minister of Agriculture on the agricultural season and irrigation operations. The Council also reviewed proposed amendments to the Investment Law.
The Minister of Agriculture assured the Council of high productivity in the summer agricultural season and the progress of irrigation for the current winter season. He outlined a clear vision to address performance challenges in irrigated projects.
Al-Ayasser added that the Council reviewed strategies to enhance communication among state officials via electronic platforms to expedite workflow, particularly given the isolation caused by the ongoing conflict and the dispersion of officials across different cities in Sudan. Discussions also included communication with diplomatic missions abroad, facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Minister of Culture and Information proposed allocating a portion of the budget to foundational media funding, emphasizing the destruction sustained by media institutions. He highlighted the importance of this funding, stating that the media is the voice of the nation and plays a vital role in fostering social cohesion, combating hate speech, promoting peace, and building a strategic national media framework.
