Mount Faces Lengthy Spell on Sidelines
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim confirmed that Mason Mount will be sidelined for “several weeks” after being forced off early during last Sunday’s Manchester derby against Manchester City.
Mount, who has missed multiple games since joining United last year, played just 14 minutes in the derby, which United won 2-1.
The 25-year-old, who moved to United from Chelsea for £55 million, has started only four Premier League matches this season.
Amorim told reporters regarding Mount’s absence: “It’ll be several weeks; I don’t know the exact date of his return, but he’ll be out for a long period. This is part of football, and we have to move forward.” He added that alleviating the injury concerns is beyond his control.
“What I can do is help Mason learn how to implement our style during recovery and use this time to think about different aspects. The worst part is that we don’t always have the time to train as much as we should when recovering from so many injuries,” he explained.
Victor Lindelöf also suffered an injury during United’s 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals on Thursday, forcing him to be substituted at halftime.
Amorim said: “He was recovering and training very well… He was doing the sprinting drills he needed before the match, but the game itself is a completely different world. It’s really tough for any player to come back after a long time out, but he was giving it his all.”
Amorim confirmed that Marcus Rashford would be available for Sunday’s match against Bournemouth after the England forward was left out of the squad for the last two matches. He clarified that Rashford’s absence was not disciplinary.
Rashford has stated that he is ready for a new challenge amid ongoing speculation about his departure from Old Trafford. However, Amorim stressed the club’s need for “great talents” like the 27-year-old England international.
