Kazan Airport Reopens After Ukrainian Drone Attack

Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) announced the reopening of Kazan Airport after its temporary closure earlier on Saturday following a Ukrainian drone attack.
Russian state news agencies reported that the attack targeted a residential complex in Kazan, approximately 800 kilometers east of Moscow.
TASS reported eight drone strikes, six of which hit residential buildings.
Local authorities reported no casualties, according to Reuters.
The Defense Ministry stated that the city was attacked by three swarms of drones between 7:40 and 9:20 a.m. local time (04:40–06:20 GMT). It added that air defense systems destroyed three drones, while electronic warfare systems neutralized three others.
Local officials confirmed no casualties and announced that all planned public events in Kazan for today and tomorrow would be canceled, with temporary housing provided for displaced residents.
The Telegram channel “Baza,” known for its ties to Russian security services, published unverified footage showing a flying object striking a high-rise building, followed by a large fireball.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the attack, saying Ukraine was “venting its frustration, stemming from real military defeats, on peaceful residents in Russia.”
Rosaviatsiya announced on Telegram that airports in Izhevsk, northeast of Kazan, and Saratov, 650 kilometers south of Kazan, had also suspended flights. The agency later confirmed the restrictions on both airports had been lifted.
