Élysée Announces Formation of the New French Government

The office of French President Emmanuel Macron announced today (Monday) the formation of the new French government after the collapse of the previous government due to a historic vote over a budget dispute.
The new government, formed by Prime Minister François Bayrou, includes members from the previous team dominated by conservatives, along with new figures from the centrist movement and left-wing orientations, according to the Associated Press.
The budget for 2025 will be a top priority for the new government. The formation of the government comes after months of political disputes and pressure from financial markets to reduce France’s enormous debt.
The French presidency announced on Monday evening that Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Minister of Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu would retain their positions in the new French government led by François Bayrou.
Centrist Jean-Noël Barrot had held the foreign ministry in the previous government, while Sébastien Lecornu, a close ally of President Macron, has been Minister of Armed Forces since 2022, according to AFP.
