Government: Washington’s sanctions on Burhan are an insult to the Sudanese people

Sudan Events – Follow-up
On Thursday, the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on the head of the Sovereignty Council and the leader of the army, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, as well as on an arms supplier to the armed forces. While the government rejected and condemned the sanctions imposed by Washington on Burhan, Burhan himself confirmed their readiness to face any American sanctions. During a visit to Wad Madani, Burhan said, “I heard that there are sanctions on the army leaders… We are ready for any sanctions… We welcome them for the sake of serving the country.”
The Treasury Department stated in a statement that the “Office of Foreign Assets Control imposed sanctions on Burhan, in addition to a company and an individual involved in purchasing weapons for the benefit of the Defense Industries System.” The sanctions targeted an arms supplier to the Sudanese armed forces named Ahmed Abdullah, a Sudanese-Ukrainian citizen and official in the Defense Industries System (DIS), which is the main body for purchasing weapons for the Sudanese armed forces.
In this context, the Sudanese government announced its rejection and condemnation of the sanctions imposed by the U.S. Treasury Department on the head of the Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that the decision lacks the most basic principles of justice and objectivity, and is based on unfounded pretexts with no connection to reality. It also expressed deep disrespect for the Sudanese people, who overwhelmingly stand behind General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan as a symbol of sovereignty, the armed forces, and a courageous leader in the battle for dignity against the terrorist Janjaweed militias.
The Ministry added, “It is strange that this suspicious decision comes after the U.S. administration concluded that the Rapid Support Forces militia is committing genocide in Sudan. Therefore, the U.S. administration’s decision, just days before the end of its mandate, to impose sanctions on the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, who is defending the Sudanese people against the genocidal scheme, reflects nothing but confusion and a lack of a sense of justice.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the flawed decision cannot be justified by claiming neutrality, as this practically means supporting those committing genocide. It affirmed that the immoral U.S. decision will not deter the Sudanese people in their struggle against the terrorist militia, nor will it affect their determination and unity to eradicate this cancer from their land, ensuring Sudan will return stronger than ever.
In the same context, the armed forces condemned the unjust decision issued by the U.S. Treasury Department imposing sanctions on Burhan, the leader of the Sudanese nation and the commander of the national dignity war, which our forces and people are waging against the mercenaries and the terrorist militia of the Al-Daqlo family. The armed forces expressed their astonishment in a statement at any actions that could target any of the armed forces’ leaders.
They emphasized that these unjust actions will not prevent them from fulfilling their legal and constitutional duty to defend the country and its people, securing its territory against mercenaries, collaborators, and their supporters both inside and outside the country, driven by a firm determination and national will that will not waver, and supported by the limitless backing of our people until the last rebel, mercenary, and collaborator is defeated.
