Expired Goods Seized in Sennar

Sudan Events – Reports
The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Authority (SSMA) in Sennar State has conducted intensive inspection, monitoring, and awareness campaigns in collaboration with the Economic Security and Military Police.
A total of 42 locations within the Sennar market—including shops, grocery stores, and small retail outlets—were inspected. Three violations were recorded, involving expired food items that did not meet standard specifications, improper product display, and poor storage conditions.
The campaign aimed to reaffirm the authority’s commitment to protecting consumers from the dangers of spoiled and expired goods. It also included educational sessions for shop owners, raising awareness about the risks of selling expired and substandard products, as well as proper storage methods and the importance of avoiding direct exposure of food items to sunlight.
Sami Bashir, the Director of SSMA’s Sennar branch, stated that inspection campaigns would cover all areas of the state. He emphasized the authority’s role in ensuring safety after the successful liberation of the state from insurgent threats. He also urged consumers to report any violations immediately via the hotline 5960.
