Energy Minister Issues Directive to Save Agricultural Season in Northern State

Minister of Energy and Oil, Dr. Moheiddin Naim Mohamed Saeed, affirmed his ministry’s commitment to resolving the electricity crisis in the Northern State to save the summer agricultural season following the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) attack on the Merowe Dam power grid. He stressed the state’s importance in securing national food supplies.
During a meeting with the Governor of the Northern State, Maj. Gen. Abdelrahman Abdelhamid, the minister directed the Electricity Administration to deliver a temporary 8-megawatt power station to the state, in addition to a 20-megawatt solar power station. These will help sustain the agricultural season and supply power to water stations and health facilities. He also promised that the electricity connection with the Arab Republic of Egypt will resume soon.
The minister noted that the interconnection would provide 80 megawatts, sufficient to stabilize the power situation in the state. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to repair Merowe Dam transformers and complete the procedures for importing new ones.
In turn, Governor Abdelrahman expressed his gratitude for the Ministry of Energy’s efforts to resolve the electricity issue and save the agricultural season, considering the Northern State to be Sudan’s food basket at this critical time. He praised the minister’s immediate directives to support agricultural and livestock projects and to ensure the provision of water and healthcare services.
