The High Committee for Creating a Suitable Environment for the Return of Citizens to Khartoum State began its field visits to targeted rehabilitation sites. The tour was led by committee chair and Sovereignty Council member, Naval Engineer Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Jaber, along with Prime Minister and committee member Dr. Kamal Idris, and Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza, who presented a comprehensive briefing on the state’s reconstruction needs and identified key locations for assessment.
During a visit to the damaged Halfiya and Shambat bridges—heavily affected by the rebel militia—the Prime Minister ordered immediate restoration efforts to begin on both bridges simultaneously. The work is scheduled to be completed within three months, based on technical and engineering assessments. Idris emphasized that these efforts are part of his vision to “restore Khartoum better than before” and expressed confidence in Sudanese engineers and technicians to deliver on these projects.
The delegation also visited Bahri Water Station to assess its operational capacity and called for intensified efforts to restore it to full functionality. Other stops included the General Command of the Armed Forces, where the team met with Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Mohamed Othman Al-Hussein and other military leaders for an operational briefing.
The tour continued to the Martyrs’ Cemetery of the Presidential Guard, Khartoum International Airport (including the Hajj and Umrah terminal), and the Africa Quran House. It concluded with a visit to the Federal Prime Minister’s Office to inspect war-related damages.
Prime Minister Kamal Idris reaffirmed his commitment to continue the committee’s work toward comprehensive infrastructure reconstruction, aiming to facilitate the return of citizens within a six-month timeframe.
