A young girl was killed and several civilians—including five children—were injured on Thursday when Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) forces shelled the city of Dilling in South Kordofan State.
Local resident Mubarak Omar Ibrahim told Darfur24 that the shelling began around 11 a.m., with about eight artillery rounds landing in Al-Safa neighborhood, Block 1—one of them striking near a communal kitchen serving meals to residents.
Ismail, another resident, confirmed that one shell killed a girl aged around seven or eight after shrapnel struck her head. Five other children were wounded, along with volunteer worker Rajaa Hussein Ismail, who had been serving food at the site when the explosion occurred.
Mubarak said the shelling originated from the eastern side of the city, where SPLM-N forces loyal to Abdelaziz al-Hilu are stationed. The explosions caused widespread panic among residents, especially women and children, many of whom rushed indoors for safety.
