Egypt: Our Efforts Focus on Ending the Tragic Situation in Sudan

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdel Aaty said Egypt is deeply concerned with developments in Sudan and is focusing its efforts on ending the country’s tragic humanitarian situation.

During a joint press conference with the Maldivian Foreign Minister on Saturday, Abdel Aaty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to securing a rapid humanitarian truce that would lead to an immediate ceasefire and pave the way for an inclusive, Sudanese-owned political process.

He stated that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had invited General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, to visit Egypt, reaffirming Cairo’s unwavering support for the Sudanese state and its institutions, particularly the military.

Abdel Aaty said President El-Sisi underscored the urgent need to end the war, which he described as devastating the resources of the Sudanese people.

“The war in Sudan is destroying everything and must end as soon as possible,” the minister said, expressing hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts will yield an understanding among all concerned parties to reach a humanitarian ceasefire and lift the unjust siege on El Fasher, which has persisted for over a year and a half.

He stressed the importance of allowing humanitarian aid to reach all parts of Sudan, halting the influx of weapons from abroad, and launching a comprehensive political process.
