US Congresswoman: UAE Main Funder of RSF, Prolonging Sudan War

In a notable statement on the Sudan conflict, Congresswoman Sarah Jacobs declared the United Arab Emirates as the “primary supporter” of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), implicated in widespread crimes in Darfur, including acts that may constitute genocide according to UN and international reports.

Jacobs stated that the war’s duration and escalating brutality are directly linked to “regular UAE military support,” including multiple weekly weapon shipments to the RSF since the conflict began in April 2023.

“The war would not have reached this level of bloodshed without external support,” she said, stressing that Sudan’s crisis is not merely internal but “the result of clear regional interventions that prolong the tragedy and worsen civilian suffering.”

Call to Address External Interventions

Jacobs argued that any serious international effort to end the war must confront regional ambitions in Sudan, particularly UAE support for the RSF. She emphasized that slogans alone will not stop the killing: “The real path to peace begins by halting arms flows and militia funding.”

Her remarks come amid growing international warnings of Sudan’s deteriorating humanitarian situation, especially in Darfur, where human rights organizations have documented mass killings and forced displacement, with the RSF held directly responsible.

Reports from the UN, Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab, and Western intelligence agencies corroborate an organized aerial and maritime supply line providing weapons to the RSF.

Observers note that Jacobs’ statements are the strongest Congressional link between UAE support and the conflict’s continuation, potentially increasing political pressure to restrict arms transfers and hold responsible parties accountable.
