Health Minister: 86% of Health Facilities Restored

Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lt. Gen. Engineer Ibrahim Jaber, accompanied by Federal Health Minister Prof. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim and Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza, inaugurated Haj Al-Safi Hospital in Khartoum North (Bahri) as part of efforts to rebuild vital institutions and facilitate the return of citizens.

Lt. Gen. Jaber expressed deep appreciation for the medical staff stationed at the hospital, affirming the state’s commitment to completing all necessary equipment and technical preparations to ensure the facility operates at full capacity.

For his part, Health Minister Prof. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim said the reopening of the hospital represents a key step within the “gradual return” plan for the national capital. He revealed that more than 86% of health institutions in Khartoum State have been restored, according to the latest ministry reports.

The minister noted that Haj Al-Safi Hospital had suffered extensive destruction and systematic vandalism, but joint efforts by Khartoum State authorities, the Sovereignty Council, and donors have restored it to service at an advanced level.

He added that the hospital has been equipped with modern diagnostic and laboratory devices and that surgical services have been expanded to include laparoscopic surgery. He announced that the hospital will provide specialized treatment and oncology services, compensating for the loss caused by the closure of major hospitals in other areas.

In the same context, Acting Director General of the Khartoum State Ministry of Health, Dr. Taha Al-Kabbashi, said that providing comprehensive health services aims to enhance stability and encourage citizens to return to their homes in Bahri with confidence.

He paid tribute to health workers who have remained on the front lines since the outbreak of the war, stressing the ministry’s commitment to mobilizing all resources to develop the state’s health sector.

Meanwhile, Haj Al-Safi Hospital Director Dr. Idris Abdullah Saleh described the reopening as a “historic achievement,” particularly with the introduction of a CT scan machine and the launch of an oncology treatment center.

He disclosed that Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Jaber provided generous support amounting to $500,000 for the hospital’s development, noting that this will ease the suffering of patients who previously had to travel to other states for treatment. He emphasized that diagnostic and cancer treatment services will be available to all segments of society, especially the poor and needy.
