Sudan Reiterates Rejection of Israel’s Recognition of “Somaliland”

Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Muhi al-Din Salim Ahmed, said that Israel’s unilateral recognition of the so-called “Somaliland” region constitutes a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, as well as of the charters of the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and undermines regional security and stability.

Salim is leading Sudan’s delegation to the 22nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC member states, which convened on Saturday at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah to discuss recent developments related to Israel’s recognition of Somaliland.

During a closed session, Salim delivered Sudan’s statement, reiterating the country’s solidarity with and full support for Somalia’s unity and sovereignty over its entire territory and internationally recognized borders.

He also pointed to the destabilizing role played by certain regional powers through their support for terrorist militias in several countries, including Sudan, Somalia, and Yemen, stressing the need to halt such support and address it firmly through collective action within the OIC.

Regarding the Palestinian cause, Salim reaffirmed Sudan’s steadfast position in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. He urged member states and the OIC General Secretariat to continue confronting Israeli aggression and plans of annexation and displacement, and to activate existing mechanisms to implement relevant OIC resolutions.
