U.S. Presidential Adviser Announces New Developments Regarding Sudan

U.S. Presidential Adviser for African and Arab Affairs Massad Boulos affirmed Washington’s commitment to maintaining active engagement in the affairs of Sudan, Libya, Ethiopia, and Western Sahara.

During a press conference, Boulos stressed the U.S. administration’s support for international efforts aimed at containing the Sudanese crisis in a manner that enhances regional stability in the Horn of Africa. He explained that the United States places significant importance on calming the region’s flashpoints to prevent them from descending into wider chaos that could threaten international peace and security.

Support for the Berlin Principle and Political Settlement

Massad Boulos announced the U.S. administration’s support for the “Berlin Principle” regarding Sudan, describing it as a solid international foundation for reaching a sustainable political settlement capable of ending the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The U.S. adviser also issued a direct appeal to external powers to immediately halt military support to both sides of the conflict in order to ensure the success of mediation efforts. He further addressed ongoing discussions with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gideon Timothewos concerning developments related to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and broader regional security issues, affirming Washington’s efforts to bridge differences over contentious files.
