After 80 years.. A Missing Plane from the 2nd World War Was Found

An American fighter plane that disappeared during the attack on an Italian airfield during World War II has been found, more than 80 years later.
American pilot Warren Senger (22 years old) was aboard the P-38 Lightning when the attack occurred on an air base located near Foggia municipality of, on August 25, 1943.

The mission of the fleet, which the P-38 Lightning was part of, was to delay the Italian air response. The mission ended successfully, but Second Lieutenant Senger never reached his target.
Air Force records show that he was last seen flying near Manfredonia, a town located some distance away. 35 km (22 mi) east of Foggia in Italy.

The diver who identified the wreck, Fabio Bisciotti, said the plane itself was in surprisingly good condition.

Second Lieutenant Senger , a student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, was pronounced dead on August 26, 1944.
Although Italy and the United States were at war when he died, Dr Bisciotti said it was a “huge honour” to recognize his plane.
He added: “It is important to remember that we are talking about a human being, that he believed in what he was doing, so it does not matter whether the enemy or friend is, he must be honored.”
