Prosecution calls for imprison of Saint-Germain coach

The Public Prosecution in Nice demanded that former Nice and Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier be imprisoned for one year with a suspended sentence on charges of racial and religious discrimination and fined 49,000 US dollars.
Galtier (57 years old) appeared at the Nice court, due to comments he allegedly made about the month of Ramadan and Muslim players. The French coach considered that the charges against him were “exaggerated.”
The issue exploded last April, when an email sent by Nice director Julien Fournier, who accused Galtier of racial discrimination, to Dave Brailsford, sports director at Ineos, the petrochemical company that owns the club, was leaked.
In the letter, Fournier mentioned a conversation with former Nice coach Galtier after the latter was surrounded by a group of team fans in a restaurant, and said that “there are a lot of Muslims and blacks” in the club.
Fournier also accused Galtier of calling one of the defenders of a team he faced “King Kong.”
The current Qatari coach of Al-Duhail admitted what he said about the player, but claimed that he meant that the man had a “strong build.”
Galtier had previously denied the allegations last April when they were first published, and promised to have his say in court.
