Sudan Awaits UN Resolution on War

Sudan Events – Talal Mudathir

Late Thursday evening until Friday morning, Sudan will await a UN resolution from the United Nations Human Rights Council regarding voting on a project to send a fact-finding mission. The mission will consist of three people in order to look into possible crimes against civilians and killings on an ethnic basis during the period of war and to establish a framework for sanctions targeting the main parties of the Sudan war, including an asset freeze and a travel ban.
In September, Britain, Germany, Norway, and the United States of America adopted a draft resolution for the Human Rights Council, held in its 54th session, to form a mission to investigate human rights violations in Sudan, which the Sudanese Foreign Ministry rejected, as it was a draft that equates the army with the rebel Rapid Support militia and does not take into account the real priorities of Sudan.
