Kadugli, capital of South Kordufan, is a scene for festival of folk dances marking the celebrations related to the success of harvest, known as the Harvest Festival.
Crowds from the area participate in the festival in a way that reflects the nature of the people of South Kordufan who love different arts and folk dances.
The harvest festival, known as Al-Sibir, is considered one of the ancient traditions practiced by the Nuba tribes in South Kordufan.
Al-Sibir is one of important holidays, during which ethnic groups celebrate the harvest of the Jabarik. It is held in November every year to express joy for the many crops they have grown.
Al-Sibir is an occasion for all members of the tribe to gather. The tasks they carry out are divided. The elders are responsible for general supervision, while the youth prepare the decorations and clean the field to receive the guests.
Women are assigned to clean the crops, cook them, and serve all who are partaking in the festival.
It is noteworthy that the Harvest Festival is one of the ancient customs observed by the ancestors in the Nuba Mountains. It is still practiced annually.
